Variety is a significant feature of effective teaching. The skill of variability is concerned with the variations which may be introduced in the teacher's manner, in the media of instruction and in the patterns of interaction in the classroom. Components of the skill cluster in these three areas and with careful and purposeful blending, can do much to maintain attention, stimulate interest and promote learning. A brief description of these components, together with an example to illustrate its use, is offered in the following series of taped segments.
