The pursuit of happiness California style. Less than half the people of Los Angeles were born here. It's a shifting, restless population with no set patterns of behaviour. Almost everywhere else in the Pacific there are social taboos which plays a firm limit on personal freedom but here in California the only taboo is on inhibition. In many ways American values are diametrically opposed to those of the Pacific islands but American entertainment here is all-pervasive. This family is watching broadcast television in Samoa. In the South Pacific only American and French territories have a local television service but videocassettes are everywhere. Often the pirated recordings copied illegally from films and TV in Europe, Australia and USA.
