Most of New Zealand's native timber trees grow very slowly. But most introduced conifers grow very quickly. Because of their fast growth and desirable timber, the New Zealand Forest Service and private companies have planted thousands of acres of introduced species mainly radiata pine however it still takes many years of work and a big financial investment to grow radiata pine to a marketable size.
