Agriculture like any other form of production has had to change. It wasn't very long ago that horses replaced oxen which were slower and less manageable. Now the next step in the revolution is to introduce machines that can work without human direction. What applies to farming, applies to any productive industry- the introduction of automation reduces the workforce but allows for greater flexibility of manufacture.
