Metal, frit and heat- these are the ingredients of enameling. Frit is a special kind of glass which has been ground to a fine even texture. Applied to the metal and heated to a high temperature, the frit melts and fuses to the metal backing. Flame is applied from the bottom because direct flame will damage the frit.
