For many, life in the country is a perpetual losing battle. Using primitive methods, the farmer barely produces enough to feed his family and if he does have a surplus bad roads make it difficult to get to market. Villages are isolated, far from hospitals and schools. To the rural poor, the only hope seems to be migration to the cities where they've heard there are jobs, schools and hospitals.
