General note The 16th of September 1975, Independence Day, Port Moresby, the Papua New Guinea flag is raised for the first time. In 1975 when P.N.G. became independent, Prince Charles representing the Queen of England, came to officiate. Now P.N.G. has been an independent and democratic country for nine years and Prince Charles has returned to open the country's new parliament building.
