500 0# - GENERAL NOTE
General note The seas surrounding Japan are rich in fish stocks numbering 2500 different kinds. From far to the south of the island of Kyushu, the warm black current flows northward bringing with it sea bream, swordfish, tuna and many others. To the East flows a branch of the black current rich in skipjack, tuna, shark and swordfish. The warm Tishima current flowing northward along the Japan sea coast abounds in yellowtail, seabream, mackerel, squid and sole. In the cold Tishima current are salmon, sole, mackerel, whale, flounder and squid. In the leman cold current are salmon, crab, herring and shark. Thus the seas around Japan form one of the three largest fishing grounds in the world. Japan's total annual catch of 5,870,000 tons ranks first in the world.
